After 30 years of working in television news I have recently been blessed to combine my love of effective communication and a passion for supporting the first responder community into a new professional chapter of my life. I have seen first-hand how the climate in our country has changed toward our first responder community, particularly in some media coverage and I know it’s more important than ever that every resource possible be directed toward the mental health and support of our first responders who put everything on the line everyday for our communities.
In September of 2023 I started in my new role as the Public Relations Manager with the Colorado Springs Police Department it’s a role I’m truly honored to have. It’s a big change after co-anchoring the morning news for KOAA News 5 in Colorado Springs since 2015. Before coming to Colorado Springs held the same position at the NBC affiliate in Charlotte NC. My journalism career began in 1996 behind the camera and a year later landed my first anchor/reporter job in Pocatello Idaho. I spent 17 years as a sports journalist in Pocatello, Salt Lake City Utah and Charlotte North Carolina before moving to the news anchor desk.
In 2019 I became involved in the SHIELD616 Border to Border rides where I began to feel like I was a part of doing something to support the mental health of our first responders while also raising money for rifle rated ballistic armor to be donated to those who may have to respond to an active shooter situation. I was fortunate enough to have have the support of KOAA to share the rides with our viewers and our coverage twice won Best Documentary from the Colorado Broadcasters Association for our coverage.
